The Author Amongst Us

My daughter has become a writing machine. She has now published three items and is in the process of completing a sequel to her first fictional work.

On Amazon you can find the following:-

“Songs from the Road” by Caroline Slee. It is a soft cover short book of Poetry dating to her days at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

On Kindle you can find the following:-

Her fiction is a wonderfully surprising, well written page turner called “Blessings” by Caroline Slee

Her next series debuted with “The Cancer-Free Gourmet” a compilation of experiences Caroline has had to endure as she recovers from her cancer.

I am sure you will enjoy each of the offerings. Support a starting author with your time and read her books.

For those of you who have access to Amazon put her name, Caroline Slee, in the search box to find all three of the books.

The time is now.

Congratulations, again, to my daughter Caroline, who has published her second book.  This is the first novel she has published.

I am very, very proud of her, and invite you all to follow Caroline on Twitter, @bellesmots.  You can also read her blog at www.bellesmots2000.com.  Her newest title is called Blessings.  She has listed it on Lulu.com.  She tells me it is a supernatural mystery, and can be a bit scary in parts.  She tells me it should be available on Kindle within the next 48 hours.

Thank you for reading!  The time is now…

With the beginning of the political conventions I thought it would be instructive to return to Milton Friedman. Free to Choose was written in 1980 and reprinted in 1990. It talks about the changing opinion of socialism and capitalism. But it gives warning which had we heeded it we would never be where we are today.

“Idealistic faith in socialism still lives on, but only in some ivory tower enclaves in teh west and in some of the most backward countries elsewhere.” If that isn’t a repudiation of the “Harvard and Yale” intellectually arrogant belief in Keynes rather than Hayek and the “we know better than you” bureaucrats in all of our capitals I don’t know what would be. Read the book and you will see we have been forewarned about our government encroaching on free enterprise for capital, defending indefensible programs “as is” such as social security and medicare, teaching for teachers and unions not for parents and especially for students and much much more.

This is a time like few others in our brief history. This is akin to the civil war in import. Do we want more government or less. The time is now.

For interested people there is a wonderful little book written by Roger W. Babson in 1920 which should be required reading for everyone in High School and every politician in the land. It is called “Fundamentals of Prosperity What They Are And Whence They Come”

In 47 pages you will understand everything you need to “understand” about work, life and results. That is the first step in my progression in life. Then there is “acceptance” of what it is that you “understand” as true and necessary and finally your “commitment” to make it happen. Enjoy it. The time is now

I have made reference a few times in the past week to the terrific now book by Gary Hamel – What Matters Now. How about we use that as our book of the week. It is topical and right on point to the world we live in today. A wonderful read. The time is now.

don’t forget your comments on the Patrick Lencioni book The Three Signs of a Miserable Job. How did you like it.

  • Anonymity
  • Irrelevance
  • Immeasurability

Did any of those points make sense to you? Have you ever experienced them yourself? The time is now.

You have to get and read carefully the latest book from Gary Hamel. What Matters Now. It is terrific. The time is now..

Alex Rogo goes through a radical transformation in operations in order to succeed. The keys are reporting criteria in use. The definitions of the goals and objectives and the tracking mechanisms. Many times our measures lead us astray. This is true with all KPI’s (Key Performance Measures) and everything used in Dashboard management Tools. care must be taken in defining and describing that which we are measuring and ensuring that the data used is consistent with Industry standards. The time is now…

The Goal was written in 1984 and is somewhat of a classic on Industrial Engineering which has morphed into CQI or TQM (Continuous Quality Improvement) and then Six Sigma and various other “consultant speak.” It was one of the first practical guides that came to my attention. It is a great read. How about the rest of you. Did any of your get anything significant from it?
