On A Personal Note

The Author Amongst Us

My daughter has become a writing machine. She has now published three items and is in the process of completing a sequel to her first fictional work.

On Amazon you can find the following:-

“Songs from the Road” by Caroline Slee. It is a soft cover short book of Poetry dating to her days at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

On Kindle you can find the following:-

Her fiction is a wonderfully surprising, well written page turner called “Blessings” by Caroline Slee

Her next series debuted with “The Cancer-Free Gourmet” a compilation of experiences Caroline has had to endure as she recovers from her cancer.

I am sure you will enjoy each of the offerings. Support a starting author with your time and read her books.

For those of you who have access to Amazon put her name, Caroline Slee, in the search box to find all three of the books.

The time is now.

Another Shout-Out to My Daughter.

Congratulations, again, to my daughter Caroline, who has published her second book.  This is the first novel she has published.

I am very, very proud of her, and invite you all to follow Caroline on Twitter, @bellesmots.  You can also read her blog at www.bellesmots2000.com.  Her newest title is called Blessings.  She has listed it on Lulu.com.  She tells me it is a supernatural mystery, and can be a bit scary in parts.  She tells me it should be available on Kindle within the next 48 hours.

Thank you for reading!  The time is now…

Book of the Week – August 25th, 2012

With the beginning of the political conventions I thought it would be instructive to return to Milton Friedman. Free to Choose was written in 1980 and reprinted in 1990. It talks about the changing opinion of socialism and capitalism. But it gives warning which had we heeded it we would never be where we are today.

“Idealistic faith in socialism still lives on, but only in some ivory tower enclaves in teh west and in some of the most backward countries elsewhere.” If that isn’t a repudiation of the “Harvard and Yale” intellectually arrogant belief in Keynes rather than Hayek and the “we know better than you” bureaucrats in all of our capitals I don’t know what would be. Read the book and you will see we have been forewarned about our government encroaching on free enterprise for capital, defending indefensible programs “as is” such as social security and medicare, teaching for teachers and unions not for parents and especially for students and much much more.

This is a time like few others in our brief history. This is akin to the civil war in import. Do we want more government or less. The time is now.

Reading List

As many of you know we have a reading list on our web site www.rjslee.com. Our extremely talented web designer is about to add a search feature to the reading list which should make it even easier to navigate your way through all the books listed. The reading list is under the Resources tab on the web site. Have a look there are a lot of very beneficial things to be learned inside the covers of a book. The time is now.

Book of the Week

For interested people there is a wonderful little book written by Roger W. Babson in 1920 which should be required reading for everyone in High School and every politician in the land. It is called “Fundamentals of Prosperity What They Are And Whence They Come”

In 47 pages you will understand everything you need to “understand” about work, life and results. That is the first step in my progression in life. Then there is “acceptance” of what it is that you “understand” as true and necessary and finally your “commitment” to make it happen. Enjoy it. The time is now
